چکیده

Subterranean termites of the species Reticulitermes speratus kyushuensis Morimoto (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) are notoriously destructive soil-dwelling pests that feed on cellulosic wood biomass. This leads to tremendous losses forest trees such as Pinus densiflora Siebold and Zucc. (Pinales: Pinaceae) precious wooden structures cultural heritage. study investigated efficacy chitinase protease produced by Bacillus licheniformis PR2 cuticle-degrading enzymes for biocontrol worker termites. a strong activity up maximum 82.3 unit/mL 35.9 unit/mL, respectively, caused lethal effect under laboratory conditions. Treatment with bacterial broth culture crude enzyme fraction B. resulted in mortality rate (with median time (ET50)) 83.3% (3 h, 36 min) 88.9% (2 59 min), respectively. The treated exhibited loss setae, disintegration epicuticle, rupturing procuticle, swelling at sockets. degradation cuticular chitin glycoprotein polymers termite cuticle represents an effective eco-friendly strategy controlling damage Korean heritage sites forests.

A Comparative Genetic Analysis of the Subterranean Termite Genus Reticulitermes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)

DNA sequencing analysis of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome oxidase II (COII) region was used to examine genetic variation in the termite genus Reticulitermes Holmgren. We examined 21 species and subspecies from three continents. Sequencing of a 677-bp region of a 780-bp amplicon from 41 individuals and from 17 sequences obtained from GenBank revealed 221 polymorphic siteswithin thegenus.Tajima...

Factors that Influence Tunneling in the Eastern Subterranean Termite, Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar) (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)1

Although subterranean termite (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) foraging behavior involves the construction of gallery systems in soil, few studies have examined how colony size or soil environmental factors influence rates of construction and morphology of gallery systems. In this study, we investigated the effects of soil texture, soil moisture, and termite density on the rate of tunnel constructio...

Cold tolerance of the eastern subterranean termite, Reticulitermes flavipes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae), in Ontario.

We characterized the cold tolerance of natural populations of the Eastern subterranean termite (Reticulitermes flavipes (Kollar) [Isoptera, Rhinotermitidae]) in southwestern Ontario, Canada. We measured cold tolerance in workers from six colonies of termites established from Pelee Island in Lake Erie, and Point Pelee National Park. The mean critical thermal minimum, at which termites entered ch...

Reticulitermes malletei (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae): a valid Nearctic subterranean termite from Eastern North America

The taxonomic status of Reticulitermes Holmgren in North America has been in need of revision for years, but because of morphological ambiguity, traditional morphological identification of Reticulitermes species has always been difficult and unreliable. Analysis of termites, applying non-morphological genetic comparisons of mitochondrial DNA from numerous populations across North America, has i...

Effect of Pentoxifylline on Chitinolytic Enzyme Activity in the Eastern Subterranean Termite (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae)

A two-molecule chitinolytic enzyme system (endoand exo-chitinase) hydrolyzes and degrades the chitin polymers. Therefore, it is imperative to discover novel compounds for inhibiting chitinolytic enzymes to prevent insect growth. This research examined the effect of pentoxifylline (a dimethylxanthine chitinase inhibitor) on inhibition of endoand exo-chitinolytic enzyme activities in eastern subt...
